An Agile framework was tailored to meet the unique needs and culture of the client. A team of coaches then worked alongside internal personnel to provide training and guidance as projects were migrated to an Agile approach.

A major airline’s IT project portfolio was plagued with multi-year projects with missed delivery dates and failure to satisfy important functional requirements. A new approach was clearly needed to improve outcomes, but with complex projects and more than 1,500 geographically-distributed technical personnel, change had to be managed carefully.

Improving’s team of Agile coaches worked with airline IT project management staff to develop a framework that provided the benefits of Agile development (focus on business value, incremental delivery, continuous improvement) while accommodating the unique traits of the existing corporate culture. A full training curriculum was developed to introduce team members, managers, and executives to Agile concepts. Advocates were identified throughout the organization and a program of ongoing support was created to encourage collaboration and adoption at a grass-roots level. Agile coaches then worked individually with teams to address real project challenges. The new framework allowed teams to adapt to changing requirements while maintaining a clear focus on the project vision.

With more than 25% of all projects now using an Agile approach, the organization is on a path toward projects that deliver the most valuable features sooner, embrace change, and provide better project visibility.
