Course Length

4 days

Too often, enterprise applications are developed without being aligned with the organization’s core goals and strategic directions.  These vital architecture decisions can have a considerable impact on technology choices as well as on crucial features such as maintainability, performance, flexibility, security, and cost.

This intensive 4-day instructor-led workshop begins with a study of distributed systems and their impact on the business.  This will include an overview of the technology options for remote communication in Java.  The workshop will examine a variety of architectural patterns, with a focus on knowing when, and when not, to apply them.  It will then look at how many of today’s Java enterprise technology options fit with your business architectural decisions; including GUI development and Java Web frameworks such as Struts and Java Server Faces, application frameworks such as Spring and EJB, and persistent frameworks such as Hibernate and the Java Persistence API.  This inevitably leads to a discussion about the trade-offs in building customized frameworks.

The labs for this workshop will utilize Java technologies that are most appropriate to your needs. Labs will also make use of Test Driven Development strategies in order to focus on specific learning points.
